In addition to selecting a name that reflects the purpose and values of your business, you must also ensure that the company name is available to register.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s more, you cannot include \u2018sensitive\u2019 words or expressions, unless you have supporting documentation or get approval from Companies House, and you must ensure that you are aware of which characters and symbols are allowed.<\/p>\n            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qualitycompanyformations.co.uk\/fully-inclusive-package\/\" class=\"related related-buy\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><span class=\"related-title related-buy-title\">Our Fully Inclusive Package - the perfect way to set up a company<\/span><\/a>\n        \n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/incorporation-and-names\/incorporation-and-names#choosing_name\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>rules and regulations governing company names<\/u><\/a> in the UK are set out in the following sources of legislation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Companies Act 2006<\/li>\n<li>The Company, Limited Liability Partnership and Business (Names and Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2015<\/li>\n<li>The Company, Limited Liability Partnership and Business Names (Sensitive Words and Expressions) Regulations 2014<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you are choosing a company name, it is also advisable to check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/search-for-trademark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">trade marks register<\/a> to avoid infringing any existing trade marks. Furthermore, you should be confirming that your company name is available to register as a domain name.<\/p>\n<h3>Permitted characters and symbols in company names<\/h3>\n<p>Including certain characters, symbols, signs, or punctuation in company names is sometimes necessary, but they can also be used creatively to form a visually distinctive name and strong brand identity. Their use, however, should be meaningful and appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>For example, an exclamation mark at the end of the name \u2018Yahoo!\u2019 reflects the energy and innovation of the brand, but including an exclamation mark in the name of a company that provides, say, funeral services? Maybe not the best decision.<\/p>\n                                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qualitycompanyformations.co.uk\/blog\/can-i-reserve-a-company-name\/\" class=\"related\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><span class=\"related-title\">Can I reserve a company name?<\/span><\/a>\n                    \n<p>Part 2 of The Company, Limited Liability Partnership and Business (Names and Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2015 sets out the characters, symbols, signs, and punctuation that can be included in the name of a limited company or LLP incorporated in the UK. These are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>any A-Z alphabetical characters (including characters with accents or other diacritical marks)<\/li>\n<li>signs and symbols set out in table 1 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/uksi\/2015\/17\/schedule\/1\/made\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Schedule 1<\/a> of the regulations, including:<\/li>\n<li>&amp; (ampersand)<\/li>\n<li>@ (\u2018at\u2019 symbol)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a3 (pound sterling sign)<\/li>\n<li>$ (dollar sign)<\/li>\n<li>\u20ac (euro sign)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a5 (yen sign)<\/li>\n<li>Numerical digits &#8211; 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9<\/li>\n<li>full stops, commas, colons, semi-colons, and hyphens<\/li>\n<li>other punctuation in one of the forms set out in table 2 in Schedule 1, including apostrophes, brackets, exclamation marks, guillemet, inverted commas, question marks, and solidus<\/li>\n<li>signs and symbols set out in table 3 in Schedule 1, provided they are not used as one of the first three characters in the company name.
